HALIFAX — Teens at Camp Kadimah in Barss Corner, N.S., raised $5,005 for the Koby Mandell Foundation and Camp Koby on Kibbutz Negba, near Ashkelon, Israel.

The camp was founded by Koby's parents, Americans Rabbi Seth Mandell and his wife Sherri, an author and journalist, who emigrated to Israel in 1996. The camp, for kids who have lost a parent or sibling to terror, is a memorial to their son, who was killed by Palestinians in the West Bank in 2001.

It enables young people to enjoy camping programs such as art; music and drama therapy; swimming, basketball, soccer and other sports; and tours and special entertainment.

The 14- and 15-year-olds from Camp Kadimah took part in a 10-hour, all-night walkathon.

"It really has been an amazing experience watching these kids put so much effort into something that in the end means so much to so many people," said Adam Armeland, Kadima's assistant group leader for 14- and 15-year-olds.

"It was especially meaningful to the kids because they felt a connection helping kids of their age have similar experiences."
